What Is Verification of Payee (VoP)?

Verification of Payee (VoP) is a security mechanism used in SEPA and Instant Payments within the EU to confirm at the time of payment initiation whether the payee’s name matches the account details—enhancing accuracy and helping to prevent fraud, particularly misdirected transfers.

This mechanism aligns with the EU’s Instant Payments Regulation (IPR) and the EPC’s VoP Rulebook, ensuring compliance and strengthening payment security.
