If you’re looking for peace, adventure, and a break from city life, Himachal Pradesh is the perfect destination.

My recent 5-day trip to this beautiful state gave me memories I’ll never forget. From exploring hill stations to walking through mountain villages and experiencing the famous Hampta Pass, every day felt like a dream. Here’s a simple and honest travel diary of my journey in the lap of the Himalayas

Day 1: Arrival in Manali – The Gateway to Himachal

My journey began in Manali, one of the most popular hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by tall deodar trees and snowy peaks, Manali was cool, calm, and welcoming. I reached in the morning and checked into a local guesthouse. The first day was all about rest and soaking in the fresh mountain air.

In the evening, I visited Mall Road, where I enjoyed local food like momos and thukpa. The small shops, Tibetan stalls, and friendly people made the walk enjoyable.

Day 2: Solang Valley Adventures

On the second day, I visited Solang Valley, around 13 km from Manali. This place is famous for adventure sports, and I decided to try paragliding. Flying over the green valley with the Himalayas in the background was an experience of a lifetime.

After landing, I took a short ride to the nearby Anjani Mahadev Temple, a hidden gem with a natural Shivling formed by frozen water during winter. Though it was summer during my visit, the view was still beautiful.

Day 3: Hampta Pass – A Trek to Remember

This was the most exciting part of my trip – a day trek towards Hampta Pass. Although I didn’t complete the full multi-day trek, I joined a local group for a guided one-day short trail to the starting point.

The path led through pine forests, rivers, and small wooden bridges. The guide shared stories about how Hampta Pass connects the Kullu valley to Lahaul. The view of snow-covered peaks and peaceful silence made me realize how powerful nature is.

Even as a beginner, this mini trek gave me a taste of what the full Hampta Pass trek would be like – challenging, scenic, and unforgettable.

Day 4: Exploring Naggar and Its Heritage

On the fourth day, I visited Naggar, a small village near Manali known for its history and quiet charm. I explored the Naggar Castle, which is made of stone and wood and offers a great view of the valley. The Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery was another peaceful stop that showed beautiful paintings of Himalayan landscapes.

This day was slower and gave me time to enjoy the culture and local life of Himachal.

Day 5: Local Life and Departure

Before leaving, I decided to take a short morning walk near the Beas River. I saw locals going about their day – children heading to school, women working in apple orchards, and men chatting over tea. It reminded me that the real beauty of Himachal is not just in the mountains, but in its people and their simple lives.

By afternoon, I boarded my bus back home, carrying the calmness of the mountains in my heart.

Tips for First-Time Travelers to Himachal Pradesh

  • Pack light but warm clothes – Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be chilly.
  • Book in advance if traveling in peak season (May-June and October).
  • Try local food – Siddu, madra, and Himachali thali are worth tasting.
  • Respect nature and locals – Avoid littering and follow local customs.
  • Consider a short trek like Hampta Pass if you're new to trekking. It’s beginner-friendly and very rewarding.

Final Thoughts

My 5 days in Himachal Pradesh were peaceful, thrilling, and inspiring. The simple lifestyle, majestic mountains, and fresh air healed me in a way I didn’t expect. If you’ve never been to Himachal, plan your trip soon – and if you’re into trekking, don’t miss the chance to explore Hampta Pass, even if it’s just a short trail. It might just change the way you see life.
