The Summer Games are nearly here! The games kick off in Paris on Friday, July 26, and run through Sunday, August 11. You and your family may be looking forward to watching all the athletes come together in camaraderie and competition. With over 30 sports represented, there’s a lot to look forward to!

You and your family can also come together in camaraderie and competition—and it starts at your favorite gyms in Bakersfield or your favorite gym closest to you. You may be thousands of miles away from the Summer Games, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun inspired by the games. Here are a few ideas to get you in the spirit.

Get a Few Laps in at the Pool

Many gyms around California, including the best gyms in Visalia, feature exceptional swimming pools. Some gyms may have indoor pools, others may have outdoor pools, and some gyms have both. If you’re looking for a fun, Summer Games-inspired activity, it’s hard to beat lap swimming.

As a family, you can race from one end of the pool to the other. Someone can time the event from outside the pool, and you can compare your times and try to set your own personal record. It’s a great way for kids to practice their swimming skills and adults to get a full-body workout.

Enjoy a Studio Fitness Class Together

Studio fitness classes are less about competing and more about working out together. You can take a studio fitness class inspired by the Summer Games, like a strength-building, swimming-based, or cardio-focused class. While many studio fitness classes are aimed at the 18+ crowd, some gyms may offer classes specifically made for kids.

Studio fitness classes are guided by an instructor, so if you’re not familiar with an exercise or routine, they’ll be there to help. Break a sweat together and push yourself to the next level in a studio fitness class.

Take It to the Courts

Basketball and tennis are two prominent sports featured at the summer games. You and your family can take to the courts for some fun versus action. Play some doubles matches, kids versus adults, or split things up—it’s up to you!

What about pickleball? More and more gyms around California have embraced the pickleball movement. While you won’t find it at the Summer Games (yet!), your local gym may have pickleball courts you and your family can enjoy together, along with basketball and tennis.

Hop on the Stationary Cycles

Cycling is a big part of the Summer Games. Several events are based around cycling, including BMX racing, mountain biking, road racing, and track racing. Get in on the fun and check out the cycling area at the best gyms in Salinas and all over California.

You can cycle together as a family or independently. If you want to compete, go for time or distance. Cycling is another way to get everyone moving, and it can help you beat the heat during the hot California days.
