The Prophet (PBUH) informed us that we should make dua and ask Allah for Help in all situations. However, he also told us that we must take precautions and follow the laws around us as long as they don’t contradict Islamic rulings. For this reason, we should take all the necessary precautions against the coronavirus such as wearing masks and washing hands often, while staying at home as much as possible.

There are duas we can recite, including “Allahumma inni a ‘oodhu Bika min al-barasi wa’l-junooni wa’l-judhaami wa min sayyi’ il-asqaam” and “Bismillah illadhi la yadurru ma‘a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee‘ ul-Aleem.” Furthermore, we can recite Surah al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas in the morning and evening for protection.

Besides specific duas, we should also pray to Allah during our Salah and ask Him to relieve this world of the coronavirus pandemic that has threatened and claimed tons of lives. As a result, Allah will hopefully provide us protection, and our own countermeasures will work as well (with His permission). It’s also important for Muslim leaders, Imams, etc., to give out the right information so that Muslims know how to appropriately behave in such serious times.

The beautiful thing is that Allah s.w.t. has promised to respond to our call upon Him.

                                                                     وَقالَ رَبُّكُمُ اُدعُونِي أَستَجِب لَكُم

Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you”

                                                              (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

First, let's make dua for those who are sick. In a hadith, Rasulullah s.a.w. said,

“Whoever among you suffers some sickness, or his brother suffers some sickness, let him say: ‘Our Lord Allah Who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your will is done in heaven and on earth; as Your mercy is in heaven, bestow it upon the earth. Forgive us of our sins. You are the Lord of the good. Send down some Your mercy and healing upon this pain,’ and he will be healed.”    (Hadith by Imam Abu Daud)

The Prophet said, “Whenever a Muslim is afflicted with a hardship, sickness, sadness, worry, harm, or depression – even a thorn’s prick, Allah expiates his sins because of it.”

Recorded by Bukhari in al-Adab ul-Mufrad (no. 493). These days, an outbreak of the Coronavirus poses a threat to many around the world. Here are some ways you can protect yourself from the Coronavirus.

                                        اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ، وَالْجُنُونِ، وَالْجُذَامِ، وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الأَسْقَامِ

Allahumma inni a’uzubika minal baros, wal junuun wal juzzam, wa min sayyi’il-asqam

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, and evil diseases

                                                                 (Sunan Abi Daud)

Dua to seek forgiveness and for the well-being

                                                اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ

Allahumma inni as’alukal-’afwa wal ‘afiyah fid-dunya wal-akhirah

O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness and my well-being in this world and the Hereafter

                                                                  (Sunan Ibn Majah)

 Dua for sickness

when we are ill, we should seek medical attention – but we can also pray to Allah (SWT) to help our recovery. It is narrated that Aisha (PBUH) said that when anyone among them had an illness, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to rub the area of the pain and recite the following dua for protection:

          اللَّهُمَّ ربَّ النَّاسِ ، أَذْهِب الْبَأسَ ، واشْفِ ، أَنْتَ الشَّافي لا شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ ، شِفاءً لا يُغَادِرُ سقَماً

Allah humma Rabban-Naas, adhhibil-ba’s, washfi antash-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqamaa

“O Allah, Lord of mankind, do away with my suffering. Heal (me) as You are the only Healer and there is no cure except that of Yours, it is that which leaves no ailment behind”

                                                                               [Bukhari]

Conclusion

Muslims must take the coronavirus pandemic seriously. In the beginning, many just viewed it as something far away that wouldn’t affect them. Then as the infection spread, people began to realize its severity. However, attitudes have relaxed once again, which isn’t good. The pandemic remains a major threat to the lives and well-being of humans. Hence, we must take all the safety measures and follow the required SOPs given by the government. Additionally, we should recite the various duas for protection from coronavirus Symptoms. With Allah’s protection, we will be able to survive the pandemic, however long it lasts. Avoid going to public places if an outbreak is occurring in your city. If you feel sick, try to prevent the spread of the disease (whatever it may be) by remaining at home and avoiding contact with others. If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth with a tissue. Keep washing your hands thereafter. Keep the clothes and surfaces around you disinfected and clean. Keep hydrated and drink plenty of liquid.
