Dhanushkodi, also known as Arichalmunai, is an abandoned town at the southeastern tip of Rameswaram Island in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated about 29 kilometers southwest of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. The town was destroyed by a cyclone in 1964 and remains uninhabited. Dhanushkodi is a strip of land about 1 kilometer wide and 18 kilometers long on the easternmost part of Rameswaram Island. The South Indian tip of Dhanushkodi is also known as Arichal Munai, which means “end of the bow” in Tamil.
