The informal essay is the most common writing among paper writers. It's not only written in school, but just about anywhere. A good exmaple of informal essay would be a blog entry. Other examples are letters, anecdotes, reflections, observations and autobiographical writings.
A striking quality of an informal essay is that it carries a personal stance. It has a familiar feel to it, and it encourages self-expression. It is also more encouraging for readers to relate to the writer and subject. Speaking of informal, this essay type doesn't mean that paragraphs should be joined together and written to pass off as an essay. Any essay that is well-written possesses a proper form, a purpose for writing, and a plan for writing. Informal essay writing shouldn't also be incoherent, with words and thoughts changing from one line to another. Though informal, the writing must flow smoothly, with direction, clarity, and coherence with thoughts and words.
The writer should have a purpose for writing the informal essay. Is it to share experiences, to help others learn, to convince, to voice out an opinion? Whatever the reason is, it should be written in a way that isn't offensive to the idea of “freedom of expression”. Having that freedom doesn't mean writing any way you want to, even if it's offensive or degrading. The freedom to write and express also takes some responsibility, because once you write and put it out there, you can never take it back. This is true for all kinds of writing.
